On July 13, 2013, the Almont Downtown Development Authority with the assistance of the Almont American Legion dedicated a plaque to those Almont men who lost their lives during the Civil War.
Out of a township of about 2,000 people, more than 250 volunteered and served and 35 lost their lives. The 12-by-14 inch bronze plaque which includes a photograph of Almont’s Liberty Pole was donated by Rick Liblong, Class of 1966. The Liberty Pole was erected on the northeast corner of the four corners on July 4, 1865 to honor the men who had served during the Civil War. Being a wooden pole, it eventually rotted at the base and for safety reasons it was remove in 1919.
